Mid-market companies across East Anglia and the Midlands are the most confident in the country on the long term impact of Brexit on their performance, according to RSM’s quarterly Brexit monitor index. Firms across the area recorded a score of 132 when asked about the impact of Brexit on their business over the next five years; the highest of all UK regions and which compared with 115 for London, the lowest score in the YouGov survey.

But confidence among the region's businesses on the short-term impact of Brexit dipped slightly from 120 in the first quarter to 111 in the second. Meanwhile, 58 per cent of firms said they were confident of the UK achieving a good dea on Brexit. Mark Taylor, RSM's regional managing partner for the central region, said: "Overall business sentiment appears to contradict rising fears that the UK government is losing ground in its bid to secure a deal that is in the best interests of the UK."
